Gamelan, the term for a traditional musical ensemble in Indonesia, typically refers to a percussion orchestra composed predominantly of tuned gongs of various types and metal-keyed instruments. The ensemble is conducted by a drummer, and often includes voice, bamboo flute, xylophone, and stringed instruments.
Orchestra Section Considered the best tickets in the house, these seats are on the main level of the theatre and offer the closest seating to the stage. The Orchestra is usually divided into 3 sections with a left and right aisle (though this can vary from theatre to theatre).
The most common percussion instruments in the orchestra include the timpani, xylophone, cymbals, triangle, snare drum, bass drum, tambourine, maracas, gongs, chimes, celesta, and piano.

Also called the side drum, the snare drum is often used as a means of accenting rhythms from other families of instruments within the orchestra or as a soloistic type , particularly in pieces that may have a "military" type theme or sound to them. The snare drum works extremely well as an accentuating instrument.

Its last listed music director was Kenneth Kiesler. In early 2007, the NHSO reported that it had sold only 100 of 850 available seats for its February concert. [1] The orchestra subsequently cancelled its season and ceased operation. The official NHSO website had not been updated since 2005 [2], and by 2009 was gone.
