July 1, 1961Originally founded as the Sapporo Citizen Symphony on July 1, 1961, it was renamed the Sapporo Symphony Orchestra in 1962. The orchestra is affectionately known as "Sakkyo" and the Sapporo Concert Hall Kitara, acclaimed for its splendid acoustics, has been the base and center of the orchestra's activities since 1997.
If the orchestra messes up in a concert lay the blame on the conductor for not doing his job correctly. In rehearsal, you fix it and find out why it happened. In performance, you ignore it and keepgoing. Most of the audience will never hear the mistake.
The HORN is in the back row of the orchestra, behind the bassoons and clarinets. The horn is a very long brass tube wrapped around in a circle several times. If you unwound a horn's tubing, it would be twenty-two feet in length!

Playing in an orchestra is typically harder than a band. Orchestral music is more complex and the fewer wind and percussion players are more exposed than in a band. Although marching bands may seem physically harder, playing demanding orchestra music is also physically and mentally taxing.
